Major Requirements for BS in Biological Engineering

  • Min. exit GPA: 2.0 in the major. Enrollment in BE courses require a grade of C- or better in all prerequisites unless otherwise noted.

**Courses not specifically listed under the science and engineering requirements must be approved by the Biological Engineering program’s curriculum committee.

A minimum of 48 engineering credits must be completed. ECE 160 /ECE 110  does not count toward the total.

Students must take but not necessarily pass the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam in the semester that they intend to graduate

Notes: Minimum 120 credits are needed for the BS degree, but 124 credits more accurately represents the typical 4-year experience of our students.
Students must take placement exams to be able to register for CHEM 161  and MATH 241 . Minimum 45 upper division (300+ course) credits are required.
Students must take 9 credits of the following BE electives: BE 405 BE 410 BE 411 BE 420 BE 431 BE 460 BE 470 .
Students must incorporate all focus requirements into this plan. Focus designations (i.e., W, E, O, H) are CRN specific & semester specific.
Students must complete 48 credits from engineering courses. Computer programming ECE 160  or ECE 110  or ICS 111  does not count toward this total.
Students can complete the general chemistry requirement with CHEM 161 /CHEM 161L  and CHEM 162 /CHEM 162L  or CHEM 171 /CHEM 171L  or CHEM 181A /CHEM 181L .
Students can complete the math requirement with MATH 241 MATH 242 MATH 243 , and MATH 244  or MATH 251A MATH 252A , and MATH 253A .
Students must take but not necessarily pass the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam in the semester that they intend to graduate.
Enrollment in BE courses require a grade of C- or better in all prerequisites unless otherwise noted. BE 411  requires C in prerequisite courses.
Students can complete 3 credits from a 300+ BE, CEE, EE, ME, or ORE course to satisfy the engineering elective requirement.
Students can complete courses from among BIOL 172 /BIOL 172L , BIOL 275 /BIOL 275L , MICR 351 /MICR 351L , MICR 485  to satisfy the biology elective requirement.*
